Good Together: An RRC Short

“You know what I’ve noticed recently, Lu?”

“What?” Lucian cast Choi a weary look. Humming, the other merely shrugged his shoulders and took a drink from his bottled water before answering him. “You and Am haven’t really been hanging out as of late. Did something happen?”

“Oh. No, actually,” he admitted. The two of them had just taken a break from their run; they were only a kilometer or two away from finishing. “Nothing happened between us. Both of just have just been really busy lately. When I’ve got missions, Am’s home. When she’s got missions, I’m home. It’s almost a little hard to meet halfway.” Choi cocked a brow at him and Lucian sighed, running a hand through his messy blond hair. “Conflicts and all.”

“Then why not, you know—take missions together or take missions that don’t interfere with your free times?”

“It’s not that easy.” Lucian stretched and Choi visibly flinched at the sound of joints popping. “Most of the time, they’re assigned so we can’t exactly back out. That’s a downside to becoming full-time, unlike you and Az.”

“Though you can’t blame Az, she’s got her family’s company. And I’m still waiting for the reapplication for full-time employees.” The other merely gave a hum at that. “Seriously? So you two can’t even get some quality time together?”

“Not as often as we want.”

Noise and Haste: A Headcanon Short

As they grew older, feelings of sibling-related affection eventually grew towards blooming into something else. Both of them felt it and felt awkward; Amaris was more aware of her affections and wanted to shut away more, while Arryn wasn’t quite sure what it was and how to deal with it.

They developed when they were sixteen, seventeen. Touches lingered a little more, didn’t feel as playful as they did when they were kids. Amaris found her eyes moving his way when he would walk into the Araceli dining room in a light shirt and rumpled hair. Arryn’s mouth would dry slightly whenever Amaris would let her hair down.

Even their attempted sparring was affected. When they were younger, they would teasingly go at each other the way their parents did whenever they had the chance to watch. However, as older teenagers, Arryn would try his best not to hit too hard or to bruise her too much. Amaris, in return, would avoid any lethal areas and aim more for his arms, maybe his shoulders if she felt brave.

And when they would finish up, they would exchange a ‘thank you for the spar’ and dart off to either parent for patching up. James found it concerning when Arryn and Amaris used to treat each other’s wounds all the time. Carina merely accepted it in stride, fussing over her children equally.

But even with that, it still felt odd.

It felt like there was a wall in the way, blocking them from getting to know each other even more as something beyond adopted siblings. Amaris knew what the wall was and edged around it, but Arryn remained clueless.

Lost Time: A Headcanon Short

Even in marriage, planning the perfect surprise for his now-wife proved to be a challenge. Drake chewed his lip nervously as he buttoned up his shirt, eyes sweeping across his closet for the one good article of clothing he had. He hadn’t expected them to not spend so much time together despite their marriage, to be honest. Drake expected for them to float happily, waking up tangled in cold sheets and kissing each other’s noses while whispering “good morning”.

…but that didn’t quite happen, not really. The two of them were still frequently called on missions alongside James and Carina, paired together, or during the rare times, totally alone. Drake thought that they’d be able to bond more, as James and Carina had assured him that they would, even post-honeymoon.

Even with that assurance, Drake wasn’t totally sure if all of that was true. And frankly, he was fed up with having to settle with waking up to an empty bed half of the time. (He wasn’t angry, no. He couldn’t be angry at Lyra.)

So he put his foot down one day and decided to properly ask his wife for some time together, even if it were for at least one single evening.

In Growing: A Headcanon Short

“You’ll get used to it,” James assured him. Arryn looked at his weapons, new and shiny and foreign in his hands; he gripped them with an urge to grow familiar with them, expecting their respect any second. But they simply stayed in his hands, cold and feeling like a stranger. James noticed the younger one’s disappointment and smiled a bit, lifting a hand to playfully ruffle the blond’s hair. “It takes time, Arryn. Getting used to your weapons will always take time, as will mastering them.”

“Why couldn’t it be like Am’s?” the boy asked, a tinge of bitterness in his voice. James blinked, “Am’s is cool. She’s got a scepter. You and mom have cool weapons, too, and I have – I have these.” He finished lamely, staring down at the sleek twin guns in his hands. “Basic guns.”

“You can’t exactly call the extension of your soul ‘basic’,” James answered, raising a brow at him. “Each person has their own special weapon. Amaris has her own. So do your mother and myself. It just so happens that this is yours.” He took the guns from Arryn and inspected them closely, “The more experience you have with your weapons and powers, the more they’ll develop. And it’s not just your powers that have to grow. It’s in yourself too, kid.” He returned them to Arryn, who let his arms hang limply. “It’s a two-way kind of thing.”

“Two-way?” James nodded and walked over to a nearby garden bench, patting the spot next to him. Arryn sat down, resting his guns on his lap.

Cold Comfort: A Headcanon Short

L’Avalon

“Drinking isn’t going to help you – or your heart – that much, James.” Drake Soledad eyed the other male uneasily as the blonde downed his nth bottle of beer (probably his third or fourth, judging by the other’s poor state of emotional stability when he had called for Drake to accompany him to the bar). “And to think you have a shitty tolerance for alcohol.”

As expected, the other blonde ignored him as he continued to drink his feelings away. Grimacing, Drake discretely took out a sleek, cellular device from his coat pocket and immediately went to his messages, texting up one of his trusted friends and teammates. SOS, he typed quickly, James is fucking up his liver again. I guess you might have heard the news from Carina.

He had barely put his phone back into his pocket when it gave a soft ping noise; Drake opened it up and saw the reply immediately: I heard. Where are you guys? I’ll get to you asap. Drake sent the address and sighed, this time leaving his phone on the bar counter next to his glass of water. Unlike the other guy, Drake much preferred staying sober at all times and not destroying his body piece by piece.

Then again, he also felt bad for James. Judging on the nearly undecipherable texts he had sent him, Drake assumed that what had happened was either really, really bad or really, really heartbreaking. Then again, the male thought with the grimace still on his face, this is both really bad and really heartbreaking at the same time. Considering that the guy’s been in love with Carina for the longest goddamn time.

“I asked Lyra to come over,” he told James. “You okay with that?”

The other barely responded, only covering his face with his hands at that point. His shoulders gave a small quake and Drake’s golden eyes widened before he snatched back his phone and proceeded to beg Lyra to come faster lest the other male start crying on him in a semi-drunken state. “Fucking shit,” he swore quietly, proceeding to throw worried glances at the entrance of the bar while awkwardly comforting his friend at the same time.
