Tokyo Narita (2/?): A Coalesce Short

KP Hotel
Shinjuku, Tokyo
Japan
January 2018

They end up collapsing into bed when they get into the hotel bedroom.

“Can we—fuck unpacking,” Aether mutters thickly, struggling to kick her shoes off. “Unpacking later, I just want to sleep. Can we sleep?” Beside her, Mathieu nods and manages to get his own shoes off before pulling the covers over himself. “I’m so tired,” Aether whines, and he presses a sleepy kiss to her forehead.

“I know you are,” he tells her, and she finally settles next to him, eyes opening and closing in a struggle to keep her awake. Mathieu holds her tightly, whispers, “get some sleep”, and she does—Aether is knocked out immediately and Mathieu takes a few more minutes to collect himself before actually falling asleep.

They had gotten to Japan only a couple of hours back; the trip from the airport had taken two hours and at that point, they wanted to be in a proper bed. Aether had fallen asleep on Mathieu’s shoulder while Mathieu remained awake for the entire bus ride to Shinjuku (he entertained himself with his 3DS), and she eventually woke up while mumbling that she was (still) tired. Upon arriving, check-in went smoothly and they rushed to the elevator just so they could get to their room as soon as possible.

(“A convenience store, look—”
“We can go there later, Mathieu, I want to rest.”)

He yawned and held her tighter, finally closing his eyes. He didn’t know what time it was and barely cared enough to check.

What mattered at the moment was getting some rest.

Aether woke up to Mathieu’s arms around her waist and a hungry stomach. The male looked deeply asleep; his lips were slightly parted and he twitched every once in a while but never actually woke himself up. She stifled a laugh and moved a little, gently ruffling his hair. “Mathieu,” she whispered, “Come on. It’s late.”

Cinq minutes,” he groaned. Aether resorted to poking his cheek until he opened his eyes, his blue eyes giving her a look. “Aether…”

“I’m hungry,” she told him simply. “And I want to get something for us to eat.” He nearly argued that they should just sleep it off, but he saw the look in her eyes and groaned yet again before rising and sitting up. “Come with me downstairs?”

“Yeah,” he replied in a thick, sleepy voice, “Let’s just change into something less wrinkly and more decent.” Aether smiled before kissing his cheek, leaving the bed to find something less rumpled.

Both of them end up in the hotel’s convenience store fifteen minutes later, Mathieu yawning and Aether putting some items into the basket. He rubbed his eyes and glanced at her, “What are we having for lunch, chérie?” She showed him the basket’s contents—there was coffee, a few sandwiches, a rice meal—and he blinked before nodding slowly. She nudged him, blushing mildly.

“You forget that I lived on a college budget before meeting you,” she reminded. He chuckled at that and took something from one of the shelves, placing it inside the basket. She rolled her eyes at the sight of (most likely cheap) alcohol and nudged him gently, “t’s too early.”

“Never said anything about drinking it this afternoon,” he teased. They paid for what they bought (which turned out to be more than expected) and made their way back to the elevators, Mathieu wrapping an arm around Aether’s waist. “You don’t mind if we keep resting today, right? I know you wanted to see the sights,” he started to apologise, but Aether shook her head and pressed her lips to his cheek.

“Shh,” she murmured. “I don’t mind. And I’d rather rest with you than go out on my own and leave you behind over here.” he nodded at that, entering the elevator when it opened. The two leaned against each other in silence before exiting, going back to their rooms without another word.

They had lunch and stayed for the rest of the afternoon, talking quietly amongst themselves and lazing on the bed, trading sleepy kisses from time to time. He eventually rolled onto his back and pulled Aether close, the latter smirking up at him slightly and resting her hands on his chest. “Thought you wanted to rest?”

“I do want to rest. I rest better when you’re with me,” he admitted. Aether blinked and nodded eventually, settling into his arms with a quiet sigh. “I’m happy we’re together right now. Taking a break from everything in Atlanta,” Mathieu told her. Aether nodded. “You deserve the rest.”

“So do you.” she poked his nose lightly, “And I’m happy you’re here with me, too. I’m happy.”

“Despite having convenience take-out as our first official meal?”

She laughed. “It was good take-out. I’m not complaining.” He grinned and pressed a kiss to her jaw, feeling her shake from laughing so much. Mathieu felt his heart swell a little bit more and kept kissing until he was on top and looking down at her, seeing flushed cheeks and a goofy smile on her lips.

“Hi there, chérie.”

“Hello,” she replied. Cocked a brow, “enjoying the view?”

“I am,” he agreed. His caressed her cheek lightly and she responded to the touch positively, “I like it a lot. The view, I mean. You look great.” Aether rolled her eyes, reddening more but kept smiling despite that.

“I like you a lot.” Mathieu snorted before leaning down to kiss her, feeling the curve of her smile against his lips. He felt her arms pull him closer and he deepened the kiss, murmuring words of adoration and praise any chance he could. She hummed lightly, kissing and smiling until pulling away from one another. “Already?”

He winked. “I can wait until tonight.” He gave her a cheeky wink, “But for now, we should probably fix ourselves before going out. The city’s waiting.” She nodded and they eventually got up, Aether looking for a thicker coat to wear and Mathieu briefly checking his phone for any messages.

Enjoying so far?

Mathieu looked back up at Aether, who was singing quietly to herself while fishing out a few coats. There was a content smile on her face, and she looked relaxed—more relaxed than he’s seen her in weeks.
