I’ll do a trade with
Demon!Dean just so that we can be classmates again.
Arzen knew that the chances of being classmates with the
people she wanted were slim. Ridiculously
slim. Ever since Elaine and Beatrice had told her that the sections had be
reshuffled instead of blocked or semi-blocked, she had a bad feeling that she
couldn’t exactly shake off.
For one point, she was upset. There was a large chance that
Sharmaine, Isabel, Francine, and Danielle would be separated from her. And
besides – she liked III-2. It was the
first time that she had felt comfortable with a section in ages. She and
Sharmaine had even planned their retreat bus plan in case they’d get stuck
together once more; the thought made her smile sadly.
On another hand, it was exciting. She could be classmates
with Felicita (who she had been friends with since first grade but never had
been classmates with) or Beatrice or even Cianna and Gabrielle. Their TIC could
be freakishly hellish or happily free-spirited…and that was all left to fate.
Then again, there was him.
Mathias Gregory looked at Arzen, who was biting her lip and
holding hands with Sharmaine as Ms. Chelle, the Fourth Year Class Adviser, read
off the list of students.
Alando, Megan.
“There’s Megan,” he heard Sharmaine whisper.
Ayade, Janica.
“And she has Janica,” Arzen agreed. Mathias felt an odd
relief when his name wasn’t mentioned, then Sharmaine’s, and then Arzen’s. The
two girls high fived and Sharmaine turned to Mathias to give him an impish
grin.
“You have thirty-three point three percent chance, Mathias,”
she teased. He smiled good-naturedly and Arzen hissed for them to be quiet as
the names were read. “Damn it all – Sir Tino’s their TIC,” Sharmaine said, disappointed.
“ACET falls on their retreat, though,” he replied. “That
wouldn’t be as nice.” Sharmaine pursed her lips and nodded, and he felt more
relief when his name wasn’t mentioned in the Gs.
But Felicita Bello’s was, earlier in the Bs.
“Shit,” Arzen cursed. “There goes my chance…”
“Wait – was Liam mentioned?”
“I think he was,” Arzen said, seeing a blonde head just
leave the classroom. “I hope he gets Ride back, he’ll get to ‘torment’ her for
the whole year.” Sharmaine laughed and he let himself smirk, unconsciously
moving beside her. Arzen failed to notice and held her breath once more.
Ride, Maxine.
Arzen turned around to see Liam grinning widely as he poked
his head back into the classroom, Maxine’s eyes widening in disbelief, yet she
was laughing to herself, admittedly. Felicita smirked and high-fived Liam, and
then *another* surprise happened.
Tunes, Ryel.
Mathias grimaced.
“That’s going to be awkward,” Sharmaine murmured. Arzen
shrugged this time.
“They’ll be a good pair together. Besides…Ryel has Ella, and
Ride has Felicita and Liam to keep by her side,” she said with a small smile as
the section lined up. Looking to her right, she saw the III-4 XDees making a
failure of a prayer circle and couldn’t help but laugh to herself.
Section three.
Arzen held her breath. Sharmaine had to tighten her grip on
her hand to stop the other from shaking, and Mathias gently brushed his hand
against her other, making her startle.
“Breathe,” he said quietly. “Don’t worry, Vens.”
She could only nod.
Alrada, Cianna. Sharmaine chuckled.
And then they went to the Gs…and Mathias wasn’t mentioned.
Arzen gaped at him.
“You’re section four–”
“I know,” he grumbled, and for a good reason.
Daniel wasn’t
mentioned in the Es either.
And then the first ‘tragedy’ came.
Sharmaine was called.
“You traitor!” Arzen accused, and Sharmaine managed a weak
laugh before hugging her SB tightly. “Don’t leave,” she whined, Sharmaine
ruffling her hair with a smirk of her own.
“You can do it, SB. You might have this…ginger thing on your
ass. If you’re in section four.”
“You–”
Arzen stopped upon hearing the name which was called a few
more after Sharmaine’s.
Rivers, Elaine.
“El,” she whispered, and Mathias grabbed her hand.
“Arzen–”
And the list stopped with someone with a surname beginning
with Y.
He tried again, “Arzen,” but she had run off from her
sitting position to where the III-4 XDees were. Beatrice let go of Elaine and
gave Arzen a small smile, the rest of them watching as she pulled Elaine into a
tight hug, Mathias and Daniel watching quietly. Therese and Gabrielle, on the
hand, were high-fiving and grinning widely.
“We’re section four!” Gabrielle cheered.
Angeles, Gabrielle.
“So close, yet so far away,” Arzen told Elaine after
breaking the hug, attempting to smile. Elaine gave Arzen’s hair a playful
ruffle.
“I’ll knock on your divider – hah.”
Edevane, Daniel.
Gregory, Mathias.
“There’s your name, Prat,” Daniel noted. “Feel nice to be
stuck with Venura again?”
For once, he didn’t sound sarcastic.
It was like he was happy
for the ginger.
Mathias let himself smile for once.
“I am.”
Ramos, Therese.
“Dude! After…eight years!” Gabrielle grinned as Arzen looked
at her four classmates. “Third grade was the last. God. Now they’ll get us
together and realize they made a mistake.”
“Section four will be terribly green,” she noted dryly.
Venura, Arzen.
* * * * *
Arzen turned
her head to see Daniel and Elaine quietly talking by the corner, Elaine with
their arms folded over her chest. “They already talked a while ago,” she said
softly, dropping the previous subject.
“Let them talk it out, Vens. They have to settle it between
them before it goes out of hand,” he said with a frown. Beatrice, Gabrielle and
Therese proceeded to talk about college with Cianna sliding in with a peeled
banana in her hand, and she ate quietly while Mathias glanced at her from time
to time.
Eventually, he couldn’t take it.
He bumped her knee gently and she looked up, startled.
“What?”
“Don’t feel so bad about it.” She was about to protest when
he gave her a look and went on, “And
don’t worry. She has Mora and Alrada to help her out.”
“I know.”
“Don’t over think it. Okay?”
She sighed.
“Okay.”
“TFIOS reference spotted,” Elaine noted. Arzen jumped in her
seat as Elaine sat back down beside her, Daniel taking the seat across Mathias.
“It’s nothing.”
Mathias sensed coming tension and smirked, nudging Daniel. “Gonna
miss your Fil Tutor, Edevane?”
“Fuck off,” he immediately replied, looking at Elaine and
then away. Arzen began laughing and Elaine rolled her eyes, Daniel looking nowhere near Elaine and Mathias, only to
have Arzen inconspicuously wink at him, which made the blond glower. “You lot
are bloody terrible,” he complained, and this made the other three laugh even
more.
“See? It’s going to be a good year,” he told them, the other
XDees looking at them curiously. “Even if some of us are in different sections.
Or will end up having the ACET moved because of the retreat.” All of them
nodded, “Let’s not fuck this up.”
